Have you ever been jarred awake in the middle of the night with an amazing epiphany, perhaps only to find out it was not as awesome as you first thought? Well, I hope this isn’t the case with this post! Follow me down the rabbit hole as I try to explain…
Have you heard the joke about the scientist who challenged God?
God is sitting in heaven when a scientist says to Him, "Lord, we don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning.”
"Oh, is that so? Tell me..." replies God.
"Well," says the scientist, "we can take dirt and form it into the likeness of you and breathe life into it, thus creating man.”
"Well, that's interesting. Show Me.”
So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil.
"Oh no, no, no..." interrupts God, "Get your own dirt.”
God's Dirt - Author Unknown
I love this joke because it so rightly points out that no matter how advanced we as humans become, we will never, ever be equal to God. When discussing creation, we give all glory and honor to God. He is indeed the Maker and the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth. He made heaven, then He made the earth and then filled the earth with all of His wonders. How splendid this all is for us!
Recently, my husband and I were driving to a different, nearby town. It was that special time of day when sunlight is perfectly dappled and glowing. This led my husband to exclaim, “Wow, God’s creation is beautiful!” And this thought led me into my rabbit hole…. If we were on a beautiful beach watching the sunset with another person, after a glorious day, we too would exclaim, “Wow, what an amazing sunset!” However, that might not be the only thing we delight over. We might also begin to exclaim and rejoice over the beautiful human that God created. We so easily and readily look to the natural wonders of the world that tickle our visual senses but often forget to acknowledge the wonder of each human being created by God, in His image.
This small epiphany has opened my eyes to a different sort of love for people as I encounter them in my daily life, leading me to a new appreciation and reverence of God’s creation with each human I encounter. I want to “ooh and ahh” over that person in wonderment, like I would a newborn baby!
I am so grateful to have my eyes opened in a new way to God’s creation, His people. I now choose to see more fully those I encounter. I see them as His creation made in His image. What’s more, I know that God has accomplished a new creation in me through the death and resurrection of His beloved son.
In His Love,
Tracey
