Image Bearers

Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. - 1 Corinthians 15:49
In church today, I sat behind a family of three — a father, mother, and grown son. I was struck by how similar the father and son were in both stature and demeanor. The familial resemblance was unmistakable. Watching them offered a visual reminder of a deeper truth: we are created in the image of our Father. As Genesis 1:26 declares, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”
We are meant to be image bearers of God. An image bearer is one who carries or reflects the qualities of another. In this case, we are called to carry the attributes of God Himself. Love, justice, creativity, reason — among many others — are reflections of His character placed within us. These attributes give us purpose on earth: to represent Him, to steward creation, and to live in relationship with Him.
God invites us to intentionally reflect and mirror His qualities. We can choose to love more intentionally, respond with kindness, and extend mercy, grace, and forgiveness. As we live with this intentionality, we find ourselves being molded and shaped more fully into His likeness. Through this ongoing process of reflection and formation, God reminds us of His call: “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy” (Leviticus 19:2).
Pause to reflect:
When you hear the phrase “image bearer of God,” what does it stir in you personally?
In what ways do your daily words, attitudes, and actions reflect, or obscure, the character of God, and which of His attributes (love, justice, mercy, creativity, forgiveness) is He inviting you to display more intentionally right now?
How might living with greater intentionality change the way you respond to others in ordinary moments?
Where might God be inviting you to grow as He continues to mold and shape you into His likeness?
I often listen to this song by Zach Williams titled, Less Like Me. I find it a good reminder of who I want to be like!
In Christ's Love,
Tracey
