Meeting Together

Carole Urbas

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. — Hebrews 10:23-25

New Beginnings

This past week, a group of us from my neighborhood gathered to kick off a Bible study on Colossians. We had been planning this for over a month, but as the day approached, the weather forecast didn’t look promising. Frigid temperatures and heavy snowfall were expected—and in Northwest Arkansas, that usually meant no one is leaving their home!

But we did.

From different corners of our neighborhood, we bundled up and trekked through the untouched snow to our friend’s house, where she had fresh coffee waiting. Despite the early morning and the blustery weather, we were eager to be together. The kitchen buzzed with warmth and conversation—some of us in pajamas, others in cozy sweats. I even brought my slippers from home.

Over the next two hours, what began as friendly chatter turned into deep, heartfelt discussions about faith. One thing became abundantly clear: we all needed this time together. Whether walking with the Lord for decades or just a short time, gathering as women of faith brought the encouragement and sharpening we all craved. By the end of our time, we were already looking forward to our next meeting.

Just Start

So many people are searching for connection, especially within the body of Christ. It’s vital that we prioritize meeting with other believers to encourage and strengthen one another. It doesn’t have to be complicated—it could be gathering a few neighbors to study a book of the Bible, hosting a Zoom study, or simply meeting a friend for coffee. Whatever it looks like, it’s needed. Deeply needed. And it’s a commitment worth keeping, even when it’s inconvenient.

Reach out, set a date, and follow through. You will be blessed, and you’ll never regret the effort.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us not to neglect meeting together but to encourage one another—now more than ever, as the Day of the Lord draws near. And tomorrow, that Day will be one day closer.

God Bless You,

Carole
