Psalm 136 is a remembrance by the psalmist of the faithfulness of God. Beginning with creation to after entering the promised land (Israel), the writer recounts God’s history of faithful love for His people. The psalmist calls to account the wonderous deeds of God as a testimony for generations to come – and it begins with giving thanks.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His lovingkindness (graciousness, mercy, compassion) endures forever.” AMP
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His steadfast love endures forever.” ESV
“O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good: For His mercy endureth forever.” KJV
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.” NLT
I am on a journey to read Psalm 136 for 21 days – to remember and give thanks to Him alone who is worthy of my praise and worship. Throughout scripture, God calls His people to remember His faithful deeds and the work of His hands, so that generations to come will know and serve the Lord.
Join me in this journey.
Set aside a season to give thanks to the Lord, and remember His faithfulness in your own life, the life of your family, and the lives of those you love.
Write it down; record the faithful acts of God as a permanent act of worship and praise.
Speak of it to your children so that you leave them a legacy of hope, a heritage of truth.
The last verse of Psalm 136 ends with thanksgiving. I am filled with joyful anticipation as together we give thanks and praise His holy name!
